Hello
My name is Sharon Matthews, and I am excited to work with you and your family. I'm passionate about creating engaging learning experiences that blend curiosity, creativity, and growth. My goal is to not only support academic success, but also to help scholars build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and discover the joy of learning. I look forward to partnering with you to make learning meaningful, personalized, and FUN.
My Story
From a young age, I knew I wanted to help scholars build the foundation for lifelong success. In high school, I volunteered as a tutor and mentor, which confirmed my passion. I went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, with a minor in child abuse recognition and domestic violence. I later worked at the YWCA of Cincinnati as a case manager and family support specialist, where I saw firsthand how education is often impacted by domestic violence. This experience inspired me to pursue my Master’s in Elementary Education at Mt. St. Joseph University.

After earning my degree, I moved to the Kissimmee/St. Cloud area and spent nearly 20 years with the School District of Osceola County. I taught 1st, 3rd, and 4th grades, high school reading, and served as an Academic Interventionist, Literacy Coach, Learning Resource Specialist, and MTSS Coach. These roles led me to complete my Education Specialist degree from Stetson University with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership.

Opening Playful Scholars Academy has been a dream come true. Our STEM Learning Center combines my educational background, hands-on experience, and love for teaching with designing engaging activities that inspire scholars and families. Playful Scholars Academy has also allowed me the opportunity to homeschool my daughter who is in the third grade. We plan her lessons and activities together. We are able to incorporate more of her interests into lessons and field trips. I LOVE that I get to combine teaching, being a mom, an entrepreneur, and a role model for both my daughters.
